Pediatric Cardiology

The department of Pediatric Cardiology deals with heart diseases in children. There is a lot of misunderstanding in general public regarding the services covered under the department.
Heart diseases in children are completely different from adult heart diseases and therefore the onset, progress, treatment and prognosis differs completely from adult cardiology. Moreover, the doctors treating these children – The Pediatric Cardiologists are also different from adult cardiologists.
We have dedicated pediatric cardiologist who manages patients not only in Goa but also in the neighbouring areas of Maharashtra.

Cardiac issues handled include Congenital Heart Diseases (CHD) which are the diseases present in a child at birth. Most commonly they are congenital heart “defects” (structural problems, e.g. septal defects, valvar stenosis, etc.) rather than “diseases” (functional problem, e.g. congenital cardiomyopathies). CHDs though present at birth, may also be present anytime before birth to neonatal life, in to adulthood or even in old age. Acquired heart diseases in children are the ones like rheumatic heart diseases, myocarditis, infective endocarditis, etc. which occur after birth and mostly in a structurally and developmentally normal heart.
