The success rate of the Emergency- Critical Care Department of a hospital is often the acid test of its overall performance, because the outcome at this most critical department is the ultimate proof of the center’s advanced medical technology, diagnostic/clinical care expertise/experience, presence of mind, speed and the ability to take quick on the spot decisions on the next course of action of its Doctors. The department’s success is also a perfect showcasing of teamwork starting from the quick response and action of the Ambulance team who shift the patient from the spot to the hospital, the ward boys who wheel the patient to the emergency dept, the nurses, paramedical staff and team of doctors who work in perfect coordination, speed and team spirit under great stress.
The Emergency/Critical Department at Healthway Hospital is a large State of the Art facility with 12 beds serving as Intensive Care Unit (ICU- Medical) for patients needing only clinical intervention and care and 2 isolation beds for patients undergoing treatment for highly infectious diseases, 4 beds serve as Critical Care Unit (CCU) in addition to which there are 4 beds allocated for ICU (Surgical) for patients who are recovering after a major surgery. The Casualty or ER section has 3 triage beds that are allocated on a priority basis depending on the medical emergency and 4 observation beds. The department functions 24 by 7, extending life saving care to patients from the State and surrounding regions.
